Mercer, John & Samuel are all listed on census returns as either Cordwainers 
or Shoemakers.

Samuel Skevington 24/4/1810 apprenticed to Mercer Skevington of Bedford. 
Shoe maker. Samuel would have been about 14, the right age at the time to 
start his apprenticeship. 3 other people apprenticed to Mercer Skevington 
shoemaker 1792-1802.

Witness at Samuel's daughter's Jane's wedding to Henry Thomas Hawkins was 
his sister Ann Savidge. Witness to his daughter Caroline to John Garrett
was his brother-in-law B.Savidge.
